The color or finish of the bedside table should also complement the decor and color scheme of your room for balance. But who can stop you from choosing an entirely different table? In the past, the bedside nightstand was usually made of pine wood, as it was the most available material but today, there are virtually thousands of bedside tables ranging from antique, Victorian, classic, contemporary, French styles and some even have metal decorations and mirrors. The people may have forgotten its cultural or historical value, but the table remain important and a useful addition to any bedroom.
Back in the days when settlers from Europe came in the new world made use of this furniture as a stove top, a cutlery station, etc. In the modern times, many people may or may not think about how important this furniture is historically, and that the table became just furniture and its presence is dictated by the principle of modern room decor. Having a table is easier to reach for your books, wallets, cell phones, alarm clock, laptop, and a glass of water, your medicines; can you imagine not having one? It is comforting to know where your things are and they can be accessed easily even if it is dark.
Measure the room -walls, floor space, windows, furniture. Draw a scale diagram of the room and then draw in where the furniture will go. This will save time and frustration trying to put a large, heavy piece where it won't fit. If you haven't already done this, remove all the pictures and art objects from the walls and flat surfaces. Whatever color the walls may be painted currently, consider painting them all white, off-white or a neutral tone such as beige, cream or light tan. Plan to hang only one piece of art per wall as a focal point.
Modern style focuses on straight, clean lines, so consider this quality when selecting new bed linens. If you select a comforter with a bold geometric pattern, then choose solid color pillows to avoid having too much. If the comforter is a solid color, such as black, white, tan or other neutral, then find geometric pillows. For texture to soften the angles, add a plush throw in a contrasting color to the bed.
